caught in desire

Free from desire, you realize the mystery.
Caught in desire, you see only the manifestations.
~ Lao Tzu

A reader was amazed by the amount of dresses I own. The last time I counted, the number is 103 in the closet. That is 3 years of collection, the 3 years that I maintain my current weight and the 3 yrs that I seriously shop at Goodwill. Sometime last year, my boyfriend thrifted a sewing machine for me. That was the week when ‘all hell breaks loose’. Suddenly I am seeing potentials in other dress sizes. Though, …though I do take a firm stand on picking-up designer labels only. Example this DKNY halter dress is initially floor length and two sizes smaller. What I did was, I chopped, used the remnant to expand the back and removed a few pleats on the back waist. And voila!

Goodwill thrifted outfit details:
Colin Stuart/Victoria Secret heels – $3.99
DKNY striped halter dress – $6.99
Old Navy cardi – $3.59
Skinny belt – $1.59
Assorted silver bangles – $2.99 each

I have a few more dresses waiting to be altered. And last week I picked up these Simplicity patterns from the Goodwill Outlet. Oh yes, my Goodwill recently opened a new outlet here where items are sold by pound, $1.39 per lb. I’ve gone twice since their grand opening two weeks ago and I am happy with my loot.

Linking up to my favorite ‘digital party’, The Thrift Share Monday. If anyone needs me, I’ll be at my sweatshop. 😀

  1. Love all your bangle bracelets and you got them at a good price. Wish there was a Good Will Outlet near me! Also, I should start counting my vintage dresses… my goal is to have 365 (to wear a different one every day) and I think I’m about 1/3rd of the way there so far.

a penny for your thoughts
